Personal and Ministry Background
Baguio is a chartered city in the northern Philippines, on northern Luzon
Island, geographically in Benguet Province. It has an elevation of 1372
meters (4500 feet) and with hot springs nearby. It is also the chief
mountain resort and the summer capital of the Philippines. Baguio is also
called the City of Pines. It is the center of the chief gold-mining
region of the country. Many handicrafts are produced in Baguio, and the
City Hall Museum displays artifacts of the local Igorot people. The city
is the site of the Philippine Military Academy, the University of Baguio
(1948), and Saint Louis University (1911). Baguio was designed in 1905 by
the American architect Daniel H. Burnham. Today, the population has
reached to 300,000 approximately.
After nine years of experience as a Community Development Worker with
World Vision, I sought to apply community development principles in rice
bowl countries in Greater Asia but instead, the Lord led me back to the
Navigators. God spoke to me in Isaiah 51:1-2, which says, "Listen
to me, you who pursue righteousness, you who seek the LORD look to the
rock from which you were hewn, and to the quarry from which you were dug.
Look to Abraham your father and to Sarah who bore you; for he was but one
when I called him, that I might bless him and multiply him."
Community Work has been my passion. With our new direction, I get excited
to pioneer in the formation of Small Biblical Communities (SBCs) applying
the principles of Community Organizing/Community Development (CO/CD) in
the process to effect holistic transformation in the hearts and lives,
families and nations in Baguio City. While, I teaming up with young
professionals and provide them with training and mentoring as they too
form their own Small Biblical Communities (SBCs).
