Personal and Ministry Background
Soc and Ched came to know the Lord personally in their early teens. As an Engineering student in St. Louis University (Baguio City), Soc was recruited by his Chemistry teacher (Diane Manubay) to join a Navigator bible study. Later he and a number of students formed the first Navigator team in Baguio City. They were trained and led by a Navigator Korean missionary Peter Hong and later by Willy Manubay. After his college graduation, Soc taught for four years in SLU and helped led the training apartment for men (like a boot camp where young college students learn disciplines in prayer, scripture memory, and bible study, along with some practical skills). Later Soc and Ched (married for a year) served as full-time staff with the Navigators serving in the campuses of Baguio City, UP Los Banos, and Manila from 1989-1998. The next year, their status was changed to Associate Staff. They continue to minister to their contacts from their campus ministries, most of whom are now professionals and starting their own families. They journey with them as they face new life challenges through periodic visits, meetings, phone calls and email exchanges.
During their three year stay in Tabaco, Albay, they were actively helping a local church, training church people in organizing several small biblical communities. These communities later became a source of help and encouragement when strong typhoons hit the area in 2007 and 2008.
Soc is employed as Human Resource practitioner at Chevron Geothermal Holdings Inc while Ched is teaching at UP, Diliman. They are blest with three wonderful teenage children: Cocoy, Aio, and Tembi. In 2007, Soc was selected to be a part of the Navigators Leadership Team (NLT). He is the only Associate Staff in the group. This is symbolic of the Navigator's direction to involve more lay people in leading the ministries. Their present family project is to help organize the NavKids, a youth group responding to the unique needs of the children of Nav Staff and Alumni.
