Personal and Ministry Background
Eseng and Ana came to know the Lord through the ministry of the
Navigators in early 70's. As single professionals, Ana taught at Araneta
University while Eseng worked in a feed mill company. While working in
these institutions, they ministered among college and high school
students. In 1980, Ana left for Cebu for further training with the
Navigators. She started the Nav ministry in UP-Cebu while teaching there.
Eseng followed and was assigned as contact staff at Cebu Institute of
Technology in 1982. They got married in 1985 and have been blessed with
three children, Joan, Joyce and Jonathan.
The Lord led them to Davao City as part of STEER 13. Together with seven
alumni from other ministry areas, they pioneered the Nav work here.
Presently ministering with them is Dexter Dumayas, a staff on training,
who is reaching out to USeP students. Ana and Eseng team up with and
coach a bunch of alumni in developing Small Bible Communities in the
city. They lead Bible studies among students and faculty of Brokenshire
College and among Nav kids, children of contacts in the communities.
Joan, their eldest, leads two high school students from these
communities, too. Both having a Master's degree in Counseling, they
integrate counseling in evangelism and disciplemaking.
Davao City is the regional center for Region XI and is one of the world's
largest cities in terms of land area, occupying more than 2,400 square
kilometers. Its population according to the 2000 Census is 1,147,116.
Davao City houses more than ten colleges and universities. The melting
pot of almost all cultures in the Philippines, it is also the home for
the many migrants from Luzon and Visayas, ethnic people groups,
endangered Philippine Eagle, the unique orchid Waling-waling, the
country's highest peak mountain Mt. Apo, and pristine beaches.
