Ronnie Saguit, new PhilNavs ND

by Irene Arzadon

The Philippine Navigators has a new National Director! Ronilo “Ronnie” Saguit was installed as National Director (ND) on 13 January 2018 as all the staff, associate staff, family members, guests from the Asia Pacific Navigators leadership team, and other Christian organizations gathered in the Navigators’ Building in Cubao, Quezon City. The theme for the event, Passing the Baton of the Philippine Navigators’ Leadership was spearheaded by the incumbent leadership team of the Philnavs.

Who is our new ND?

Our new ND is married to Gloria Saguit, and they are blessed with three sons—John Joel (married to Faye with two boys TJ and Gelo), John Isaac, and John David. Ronnie has been with Philnavs since college days at the Cebu Institute of Technology. He served as Field Staff from 1988-1997, then Associate Staff from 1997-2007. He has been assigned to Naga City, Pili Cam. Sur and Cebu City, and the whole family was deployed as missionaries to Bangladesh from 2007-2013. Prior to being ND, Ronnie was a Field Staff and Regional Coordinator for Visayas. Ronnie is a Licensed Civil Engineer, and acquired his MA in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of the Philippines Diliman. He is also a Ph.D. candidate in Public Administration from Cebu Normal University. Aside from ministry work, he also worked as a professor of Civil Engineering, and consultant and project manager for several land and water projects.

Soc Arzadon hosted the ceremonies, and in Philnavs tradition-led songs that expressed God’s faithfulness to the ministry (Great is Thy Faithfulness) and to the generations of Nav leaders (Find Us Faithful). Asia Pacific Navigators Regional Director, Koay Chee-Hoe, challenged the group with the 90-10 Scandal and The Great Imbalance, referring to 90% of the efforts, missionaries and resources are going to the 10% population of Asia Pacific who have already heard of the gospel, while the remaining 10% labor goes to 90% of the people groups in 10/40 window.

Victor Pascual (Board of Trustees chairman) described the selection process for the new ND, followed by the passing the baton ritual. Previous NDs and members of the National Leadership Team (NLT) were present to inspire and encourage—Philip Flores, Wency de la Vina, Bobot Migraso, Soc Arzadon, and Eseng Victolero—and all had encouraging messages for the new ND. And what is a Philnavs gathering without entertainment? With great comedic timing, our previous ND Eseng and our new ND mimicked the passing (and receiving) of a baton in athletic races.
