Greg invited Christ into his life as a child and reaffirmed his commitment as a high school student. His junior-high years in Latin America as a child of missionary parents were a major factor in the development of his heart for world missions. Greg was discipled by The Navigators while studying at Oregon State University and received his theological education at Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon.

Hannah is Chinese, born in the Philippines to parents who had emigrated from China. Her ability to speak Fookien, English, Mandarin, and Tagalog reflects her multi-cultural background. Hannah became a Christian at age 18 through an America pen pal who mailed her a Four Spiritual Laws booklet. She graduated from Far Eastern University and from Biblical Seminary of the Philippines (B.S.O.P.) and taught at B.S.O.P. for three years before she went to the U.S. for further studies. She was the first-ever woman to earn a Th.M. degree from Western Seminary. It was while Hannah was studying in the U.S. that she and Greg met.

Greg went to the Philippines as a Navigators’ Missionary Associate in 1983. He and Hannah were married in Metro Manila in 1984. Greg and Hannah “wear several hats” at present:

  1. Evangelism, discipleship, and church-planting: It has been a joy, not only to see acquaintances become friends, but to see them come to faith, and to see “circles of friends” become “communities of faith.”
  2. Staff development and staff care: Greg and Hannah have, for some years, been involved in equipping and in “shepherding” Filipino Navigators staff nationwide, from the mountains of northern Luzon to the coastal cities of Visayas and Mindanao.
  3. Writing and publishing: Greg has authored a series of Bible studies that speak specifically to the Filipino worldview, and several papers on evangelism, discipleship, and church-planting. Some of those Bible studies and papers will be published by NavPress Philippines and by the Journal of Asian Missions in 2006.
  4. Theological education: Both Greg and Hannah have ministered to the larger Christian community by teaching at Biblical Seminary of the Philippines and at Alliance Graduate School. (Both Greg and Hannah are doctoral candidates at the Asia Graduate School of Theology.)

Greg and Hannah have three children: Andrew (20), Nathan (18), and Stacey (14). The boys are going to college in the USA, but their family reveled for years in the Philippines’ eclectic Filipino/Chinese/American cultural “melting-pot.” A favorite dish with everyone in the family is adobo (chicken or pork simmered in vinegar and soy sauce). They all enjoy Chinese sio pao and sio mai (dumplings), and Hannah is willing to endure McDonald’s occasionally. They have enjoyed vacationing on beaches from north to south. “I lived in the Philippines for years,” says Greg, “before I discovered the most beautiful part of this country is underwater. Snorkeling reminds me of swimming onto the set of ‘Finding Nemo.’ I love it.”
